‘I should have had a hat-trick against Man United’ – Nigerian-born striker declares
According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Sunday October 11, 2026, Dominic Solanke has admitted he should have scored a hat-trick after rescuing Tottenham Hotspur with a dramatic late equaliser in their reported 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Tottenham striker headed home in the 92nd minute to earn his side a valuable point, despite the visitors playing with 10 men following Rodrigo Bentancur’s dismissal.
However, Solanke was not entirely satisfied with his performance, believing he had missed several opportunities to score more goals.
“I should have had a hat-trick. I wasn’t clinical enough. I know that,” he reportedly told Sky Sports after the match.
Manchester United had taken the lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the 73rd minute, putting Tottenham under pressure before Solanke’s late intervention changed the outcome.
The equaliser was particularly significant for Solanke, who reportedly wore Tottenham’s captain’s armband for the first time during the encounter.
Despite his decisive contribution, the Nigerian-born forward made it clear that he expects more from himself in front of goal.
His performance offered Tottenham encouragement, but Solanke’s comments showed that he remains determined to improve his finishing as the season progresses.
