Police arrest two teenage suspects for alleged illegal firearm possession in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two 19-year-old men over the alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and recovered a locally made revolver pistol with two rounds of live ammunition.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the first suspect, Rufai Ahmed, was arrested at about 10:30 pm on October 11, 2026, during an intelligence-led patrol along Sokoto Road in Kano.

The statement said operatives attached to the Farm Centre Police Division intercepted a tricycle, popularly known as Keke NAPEP, on suspicion of criminal activity.

“A search reportedly led to the discovery of a bag containing a locally fabricated revolver pistol and two rounds of live ammunition in Ahmed’s possession,” the statement added.

The police said further investigation led to the arrest of a second suspect, Aliyu Ibrahim, of Kawo Quarters, Kano, in connection with the case.

The statement added that operatives of the command’s Criminal Investigation Department took over the investigation following an order by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

“The arrests were made in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s directives on intelligence-led policing and the ongoing efforts to recover illegal firearms.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the case, after which the suspects will be charged to court,” the statement said.

Bakori commended the officers involved in the operation and urged residents to continue providing the police with credible information to help prevent crime.
