A promising highly gifted young netball player stands on the verge of losing out on a long-held dream to represent her motherland at the international arena. Luna Humu is slated to compete in an international school’s tournament in Thailand, in December this year.
Agnes Rimunika Humu, biological mother of Luna, 16-year old learner at the Walvis-Bay Private School, is appealing to Good Samaritans for financial assistance as Luna needs at about N$55 000 to make the trip.
A passionate and committed well-grounded young athlete, Luna is a rock-solid goalkeeper for the school’s senior netball team. Luna has been duly selected to represent the learning institution in the upcoming youth tourney in Thailand. However, insufficient funds could derail her childhood desire to represent her native land on foreign soil.
In a desperate attempt to raise funds for her stranded daughter, the clearly heartbroken mother reached out to numerous corporate businesses and individuals requesting for financial assistance, but potential funders are dragging their feet to come on board and support.
The Asian tour offers Luna the perfect platform to take her talent to the next level. The athletically structured basket rattler has been on the rise since she started brutalizing the hoops at Primary School. In her own words, netball has been the staple food of her body and soul, something she is genuinely passionate about.
“Sport has taught me discipline, teamwork, commitment, and ultimately importance on how to push myself to improve my game. The Asian tour will lay down the foundation to improve my game and in the process gain much needed international exposure by playing against highly competitive opponents.
Such an exercise will in all likelihood develop my skill and overall growth as an athlete,” says Luna.
The cat-footed Luna, is determined to represent Namibia at senior level. Luna strongly believes participating in such high-profile tournaments against world class opponents could make her dream come true.
Luna is the proud custodian of multiple accolades derived from her displays on the netball courts. Despite the financial challenges, her mother remains hopeful.
“It will be heartbreaking and travesty of justice if Luna fails to board the aircraft to Thailand,” sighs Humu in a soft voice accompanied by tears.
