News Central managing director and editor-in-chief, Kayode Akintemi, has advised journalists and media organisations to adapt to the changing media landscape and find new ways of remaining relevant to audiences.
Akintemi spoke after receiving the Heroes of Tomorrow Africa (HTA) Excellence in Media Award 2026 in New York recently, said the changing nature of journalism required media professionals to understand emerging trends, particularly the growing influence of digital platforms and changing patterns of news consumption.
According to him, media organisations must continuously evolve their approach to journalism while maintaining the values and responsibilities that underpin the profession.
He also stressed the need for journalists to develop new skills and understand how technology is reshaping the way news is produced, distributed and consumed.
Akintemi said the future of the media would require organisations to respond to changing audience expectations while ensuring that journalism remained relevant and credible.
He urged media professionals to see the changes in the industry as an opportunity to rethink traditional approaches and develop models that could sustain journalism in the digital environment.
The award was presented to Akintemi by Professor Nelson Aluya at a ceremony held in New York. According to the organisers, the award recognised Akintemi’s years of work in journalism and media leadership, as well as his contribution to the African media industry.
Speaking after receiving the award, Akintemi thanked the organisers and dedicated the recognition to his colleagues, media professionals and other stakeholders in the journalism industry.
