TateHalle dances to his own beat

At just 22 years old, Windhoek-born Theodor Nangolo, better known to his supporters as ‘Halle’ or ‘TateHalle’, is already proving that sticking to a single lane is a thing of the past.

A mobile barber, dance choreographer, stage performer, and aspiring DJ, TateHalle describes himself simply as an “all-round creative” and a “multiple trick pony.”

TateHalle says his nomination at the MTC Content Creator Awards felt like a natural milestone rather than a complete shock.

“To be honest, I was not surprised,” he says. “I believe I put the work and dedication into my craft to deserve a fair shot at the award. Beside that, I’m grateful to be in this position. I can only hope that this recognition comes with opportunities that can help me create a foundation and build a career to support myself and those that I share this passion with.”

Specialising in amapiano, TateHalle’s choreographic routine relies heavily on feeling the music before putting pen to paper or feet to the floor.

“First of all, I connect to the song or track I choose to dance to. My body has to want to move before I even think of moving. That’s how I know I’ve found the right track,” he says. He starts with freestyling to clear his mind and analyses the beat before structuring the routine.

When building a dance, TateHalle sticks to three rules: it must be unique, accessible to both pros and beginners, and tailored to look strong on stage.

He aims to match current trends so the choreography catches fire online, getting in front of the camera as soon as the sequence is set.

Drawing early inspiration from Michael Jackson, TateHalle describes his approach as technical yet accessible.

“It should be pleasing to the eye, combining footwork, head movement, and rhythmic body flow like a smooth criminal,” he says. “I think this is what sets me apart.”

TateHalle’s biggest online impact comes from his dance challenges designed to get audiences off the sidelines and into the movement. His most widespread routine to date was set to the local hit ‘Respek’ by DJ Spuzza, Chester Houseprince, Sqmusiq, and Meyer & Bones. The challenge travelled as far as Tanzania and remains a staple on stage for the track’s creators.

“Why I love dance challenges so much is because they allow me to connect with fellow dancers, artists, and fans beyond my reach,” TateHalle notes.

Maintaining high output isn’t always easy, however. When creative exhaustion sets in, TateHalle steps back rather than pushing through. “I have learned to take it as a sign to take a break and regroup by spending time with family, friends, and catering to my mental health. Often, I manage to come back stronger and more confident.”

Support from family, friends, and the public keeps TateHalle grounded, whether he is offering advice to aspiring dancers or stopping for photos in the street.

Regardless of the outcome at the MTC Content Creator Awards, his long-term goals remain fixed on building up the local scene.

Down the line, he hopes to establish a dedicated dance academy in Namibia to give young people a constructive outlet and a path toward a professional career.

Closing with a word of advice for fellow young creators, TateHalle credits his faith for keeping his career in perspective: “Find God, trust Him, and allow Him to work in your life, because through every season of life He takes you, good or bad, there are lessons that will help shape you for the better.”
