Okorocha’s Lawyer Breaks Silence After Court Sacks Uzodinma, Reveals What Judge Ruled on APC Primary
According to a report by DAILY POST on Thursday 29 October 2026; Lawyer to former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, O.J. Aboje, has welcomed the Federal High Court judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish his client’s name as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.
Aboje expressed his excitement on Thursday after Justice Obiora Egwuatu ruled that Okorocha was the rightful winner of the APC senatorial primary election held on May 18, 2026.
The court ordered INEC to publish Okorocha’s name as the party’s authentic candidate for the January 16, 2027, senatorial election, effectively disqualifying Governor Hope Uzodinma from parading himself as the APC candidate for the district.
Justice Egwuatu also restrained Uzodinma from presenting himself as the party’s senatorial flag bearer, maintaining that he did not emerge victorious in the primary election.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the judgment, Aboje said the ruling had confirmed his client’s position that he won the primary but was wrongly denied the opportunity to represent the party in the forthcoming election.
The lawyer accused the APC of submitting Uzodinma’s name to INEC despite Okorocha’s alleged victory in the primary.
“The court was convinced that the primary election was won by Rochas Okorocha but most unfortunately, APC forwarded the name of the wrong person. Someone who does not win in the election,” he said.
Aboje further argued that the party could not legitimately nominate an aspirant who failed to win its primary election, stressing that the court had intervened to address the alleged irregularity.
“The court decided that at this juncture, the party does not have the right to forward the name of someone who does not win the election,” the lawyer added.
Expressing satisfaction with the outcome, Aboje said the judgment had cleared the way for Okorocha’s name to be published by INEC, while congratulating the former governor and the people of Imo West.
“Okorocha won the election and the court has ordered his name to be published. We give God the glory and we congratulate Rochas Okorocha and the people of his zone,” he stated.
The ruling marks a significant turn in the political contest for the Imo West senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections, placing the APC’s candidate selection process under fresh scrutiny.
It also presents a major setback for Uzodinma’s senatorial ambition, with the court’s directive placing Okorocha at the centre of the dispute over who should fly the APC flag in the district.
The development is expected to generate further political reactions as the party confronts the implications of the judgment ahead of the forthcoming election.
