Strong winds have battered central Cape Town and surrounding suburbs, with reports of damage emerging from several streets as cold, wet and windy conditions move across the Western Cape, ***Cape {town} Etc ***reports.
Damage has been reported in Buitekant Street, Derry Street and Vredehoek, with residents sharing reports on social media of fallen and damaged structures as powerful gusts swept through the city.

The conditions have also prompted dramatic accounts from residents, including a report shared in the Gardenia Avenue Community WhatsApp Group describing how a roof was allegedly blown from a house and into electrical lines.
‘Roof came off a house, blew into the electric lines, exploded, flew across the road into petrol station. Had to dive for cover.’

The incident was among several reports of damage as strong winds affected parts of the city.
The strong winds come as the Western Cape braces for continued cold, wet and windy conditions from Thursday into Friday. The Overberg and Garden Route are expected to face the greatest risk, with residents in affected areas urged to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel.
Motorists are advised to be particularly cautious, as strong winds could make driving conditions hazardous, and debris, fallen trees, and damaged structures pose additional risks.
Residents should also avoid approaching damaged electrical infrastructure and report dangerous situations to the relevant authorities. People across the province are encouraged to stay informed through official weather and emergency channels as the conditions develop.
