Over 3,000 Runners Set For Abeokuta 10KM Race
More than 3,000 runners have registered for the 2026 Abeokuta 10KM Race, with the fifth edition of the road race scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 3, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The strong turnout has heightened expectations ahead of the event, organised by Nilayo Sports Management Limited.
The race will begin at 7am at Macjob Grammar School, Onikolobo, and finish at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto.
Participants will run through parts of the Ogun State capital, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to witness the race while experiencing some of the city’s landmarks and attractions.
A major feature of this year’s event is its 100 per cent indigenous status, with only Nigerian athletes eligible to compete.
Organisers are also expecting the race to provide a boost to economic activities across Abeokuta, particularly for small businesses operating along the route.
Food vendors, transport operators, artisans, hospitality providers and other traders are expected to benefit from the influx of participants, officials, spectators and visitors into different parts of the city.
The event is expected to attract sports administrators, serving and retired athletes, sports enthusiasts and other dignitaries.
Beyond the competition, the Abeokuta 10KM Race is positioned to combine athletics with tourism, culture and local economic activity as the Ogun State capital hosts runners from across the country.
