A headmaster in Gokwe North has died after he was allegedly attacked with a claw hammer and a burning log by an enraged neighbour who found his wife drunk on opaque beer allegedly given to her by the headmaster.
Charles Chikozho, headmaster of Nyamhara Primary School, died on Sunday after he was allegedly assaulted by Advert Lancelord Muzenda (31) and his wife Rumbidzai Murandu (41).
The incident happened at Mativenga Village under Headman Nembudziya in Gokwe North.
Muzenda and Murandu have since been arrested and charged with murder. They appeared at Gokwe Magistrates Court and were remanded in custody.
The court heard that Muzenda broke into Chikozho’s house and attacked him with a claw hammer, then went home, dragged his wife to the scene and forced her to hit Chikozho with a burning log.
It is alleged that Chikozho had earlier passed through Muzenda’s homestead carrying a 20-litre bucket of opaque beer. Murandu is said to have asked him for some beer, and he gave her two litres.
Muzenda later returned home to find his wife drunk. When he asked where she had got the beer, she implicated Chikozho.
Muzenda allegedly went to confront Chikozho armed with a Colombian knife and a claw hammer. He is said to have threatened Chikozho’s family, broken into the bedroom where Chikozho was sleeping and severely assaulted him.
He then allegedly left Chikozho in a pool of blood, went back home and dragged Murandu to the house, where he ordered her to strike Chikozho several times with a burning log.
Chikozho was pronounced dead on arrival at Gokwe North Hospital.
