“We are excited. This really shows that NBM has confidence in women’s football and the girl child. The girls will be active in preparation for the World Cup,” Migogo said.
Silver Strikers Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba said the resumption of the NBM Women’s Premiership was long overdue “It is good development that the league is back after waiting for nine months. We are looking forward to continue from where we left last season,” he said.
Silver Ladies won the inaugural edition after a dominant campaign which saw them amassing 48 points from 18 matches. They recorded 18 victories and two losses without a draw in the entire campaign. For winning the title, Silver pocketed K10 million plus a trophy whereas runners-up Ascent Soccer Academy and MDF Lionesses got K5 million and K3 million, respectively.
Ascent Operations Director Thom Mkolongo was also excited with the new. “We have waited for so long. We expect another competitive league but we are ready for it,” Mkolongo said.
Each of the 10 teams received K13 million as subvention plus two sets of uniforms and five match balls.
This year’s NBM Women’s Premiership will also comprise 10 teams including three debutants Chitoliro Heroines, Pact Women’s Football and Rumphi Sisters. The trio earned promotion after winning championships in their respective regions. Chitoliro won the Southern Region Women’s Football League whereas Pact and Rumphi finished as champions in the Central and Northern Region, respectively.
