The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has said the claim by Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, that security has improved under President Bola Tinubu’s administration is a distortion of fact.
General Musa had said during an interview on national television that attacks by terrorists and extremist groups were no longer as rampant or brazen as they were in the past.
“We have defeated terrorists because now, as I said, the attacks are not as rampant and it is now kidnapping,” the minister claimed, describing kidnapping as “a social ill where you now see wives kidnapping husbands and husbands kidnapping children.”
But APM, in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf, said the minister was living in denial.
The party alleged that over 600,000 Nigerians have been killed and no fewer than 2.2 million others, including women and children abducted under President Tinubu’s administration.
The APM described General Musa’s comments as insensitive to the plight of Nigerians, who bear the pain of the daily killings, maiming, rape, abduction for ransom, and incarceration by bandits in dehumanising conditions in various parts of the nation.
“Only last week, 600 Nigerians (mostly women, children, and the elderly) were abducted from Dekera, Gidan-Zana, and Sabon Gida villages in Niger State and are still languishing in captivity,” the party stated.
According to the APM, the minister’s comments showed that the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government does not feel the pain and anguish of millions of Nigerian families whose lives have been permanently ruined in the last three years.
The party noted that a report in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2026 ranked Nigeria as the 4th most insecure country in the world, pointing out that independent reports by credible international organisations also indicated that Nigeria’s insecurity rating has climbed two spots from the 6th place recorded in the 2025 index.
“Credible data released by SBM Intelligence shows that kidnapping for ransom has grown into a highly monetised industry under President Tinubu, with over N7.78 billion paid in ransom between July 2025 and June 2026,” APM stated.
According to the party, it is either President Tinubu’s administration is disconnected from reality or it is deliberately attempting to manipulate public perception by denying the actual situation in the country.
It challenged President Tinubu, the Minister of Defence, and other senior officials of the government to travel by road without armed security details as other Nigerians do, if they believe that the security situation has truly improved.
APM said insecurity is festering under President Tinubu because he lacks the capacity to develop and operate a blueprint to tackle and contain the challenge, and warned that Nigeria cannot survive another four years under Tinubu’s administration.
The party, however, assured that the APM government will address the insecurity and other challenges if voted into power in 2026, claiming that its presidential candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has a blueprint to tackle these challenges.
