Letters | Poor service at the Post Office
"The Post Office is in dire financial trouble and the clerk, as an employee of the Post Office, needs to learn that the Post Office desperately needs more custom and that all customers, no matter who they are, should be treated courteously and with respect at all times."
September 30, I visited the Howick Post Office to renew my vehicle licence. When I approached the counter, the clerk behind the counter was filling out a lengthy form. He continued to fill out the form, even though he could quite clearly see that I was standing at the counter waiting to be served. He then proceeded to sort various documents and attach them to the form which he had just completed.
When he finally looked up at me, I greeted him and handed him my forms. There was zero response from the clerk, not even a smile or an acknowledgement of my greeting. He then proceeded to capture the information from the form on his computer, all the while chewing loudly on what I presume was chewing gum. Without looking up from his computer, he then said “R880”.

No please, no thank you, no courtesy shown what so ever. Once the payment process was complete and I had received my licence, I thanked him and left the counter. Once again, there was no acknowledgement from the clerk.
Is this the way Post Office employees treat their customers? The Post Office is in dire financial trouble and the clerk, as an employee of the Post Office, needs to learn that the Post Office desperately needs more custom and that all customers, no matter who they are, should be treated courteously and with respect at all times.
