Gov Oborevwori Orders Probe As Suspected Thugs Disrupt NDC Mobilisation Campaign In Delta

A political mobilisation march by supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Effurun, Delta State, was today disrupted following a confrontation with a group described by the organisers as suspected political thugs.

The incident occurred during the party’s one million March for NDC candidates, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The NDC supporters were reportedly marching around Airport Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, when a confrontation reportedly broke out between the campaigners and a group of men alleged to be political thugs of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Videos circulating online show a chaotic scene, with some NDC supporters in blue shirts seen confronting individuals described as the alleged attackers, while some were carrying sticks

While the police in Delta have yet to make an official statement on the incident, the Delta State Government has condemned the reported violence, insisting that every political party and candidate has the right to campaign freely and peacefully anywhere in the state.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, in a press release, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had directed security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law.

Aniagwu said that the government was particularly concerned about the viral video of the confrontation, stressing that political rivalry must not degenerate into violence, thuggery or intimidation, insisting that no political party would be prevented from campaigning anywhere in Delta, provided such activities remained peaceful and within the law.
