People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has urged the opposition to open its doors to everyone willing to join the push for change. She warned against leaders who claim to be in the opposition while behaving like President William Ruto.
Karua spoke at a joint rally in Njoro in Nakuru County on October 21. She was accompanied by Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i and People’s Party of Kenya leader Ndindi Nyoro.
She told the crowd that some people found the opposition already in place. She said such people should open the door so that everyone can enter. She also said one can be in the opposition and still carry the habits of Kasongo.
Karua called on leaders to embrace competition and stop locking others out of the opposition.
Her remarks follow recent tensions within the United Opposition. On October 11 Nyandarua Senator John Methu questioned the loyalty of Nyoro and Matiang’i during an interview on Citizen TV.
Methu is a close ally of Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua. He suggested that Nyoro could be a mole linked to efforts by Ruto to divide the opposition. He also expressed doubt over the commitment of Matiang’i.
Some social media posts wrongly attributed the mole claims to Gachagua. The specific naming of the two leaders came from Methu. Gachagua had earlier warned that some principals might break ranks if they were not picked as the single presidential candidate.
Karua framed the dispute as a test of whether the opposition will choose inclusion or suspicion. She said shutting out potential allies only weakens the collective effort ahead of 2027.
The joint appearance of the three leaders underscored their shared call for unity focused on removing the current administration.
