Phil Collins has revealed that his long-running feud with Paul McCartney has finally been put to rest after more than two decades.
Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Friday, the former Genesis drummer revisited the disagreement, which began during rehearsals for the Queen’s Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace in 2002.
Collins recalled presenting McCartney with a rare first edition of Hunter Davies’ book about The Beatles and asking him to sign it. He said McCartney then made a remark to his then-wife, Heather Mills, about Collins being a major Beatles fan.
Collins admitted that he took the comment badly at the time, although he now believes he may have interpreted it more seriously than McCartney intended.
The 75-year-old musician told Morgan that McCartney, 84, recently contacted him after learning that Collins was approaching fellow musicians about memorabilia for a charity auction supporting the King’s Trust.
According to Collins, McCartney raised their long-standing estrangement during the call and asked: “What is all this about?”
The conversation appears to have helped bring an end to the disagreement, more than 20 years after the two musicians first fell out.
