Police have seized drugs, firearms, ammunition, and a substantial amount of cash in arresting an alleged drug dealer in Durban.

An alleged drug dealer has been arrested after he was found in possession of firearms, ammunition, drugs and R200,000 in cash at his home in Durban.
The 45-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in Effingham in Greenwood Park on Thursday.
The provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda,, said police were conducting crime prevention duties when they received information about a person selling drugs.
The officers acted on the information and went to the address identified.

“The suspect was found inside the house and a subsequent search led to the recovery of a rifle, one shotgun and three handguns, with 3 196 rounds of ammunition of various calibres of firearms, 1 100 of which were for an AK-47 assault rifle,” Netshiunda said.
The man was also found in possession of drugs.
“The suspect was also found in possession of mandrax tablets and cocaine, plus cash amounting to over R200,000. He was duly arrested and charged for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and possession and dealing in drugs. The suspect will appear in court soon,” Netshiunda said.
Acting KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Major-General Phumelele Makoba praised the team from Crime Prevention for their swift response.
She said effective crime prevention is about creating a network of informers who will alert police about crimes in their communities, adding that police must earn the trust of communities by acting decisively on tip-offs.
“We thank our Crime Prevention officers for not just driving around the streets, but for paying attention to the concerns of the communities that we serve and acting on their concerns. The removal of five firearms from society will prevent violent crimes which could have been committed using those guns,” Makoba said.
