Cardoso Warns Sundowns Could Face Another League Like Last Season After Referee Complaints

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has criticised the match officials following his team’s 4-1 victory over Durban City, claiming that his side were denied two clear penalty opportunities during the encounter.

Despite securing an important victory, the Portuguese tactician was unhappy with some of the refereeing decisions and made his feelings known after the final whistle.

Sundowns dominated large periods of the match and managed to score four goals against Durban City. However, the result did not stop Cardoso from questioning the officiating, particularly regarding two incidents he believed should have resulted in penalties for his team.

The coach suggested that the decisions could have a bigger impact on the title race if similar situations continue throughout the campaign.

Speaking after the match, Cardoso expressed his frustration and appeared to suggest that the league could follow a similar pattern to last season if the standard of officiating remained unchanged.

“If the league is played as we saw today, then there is not a lot of story. We will have a league like last year,” Cardoso said, as quoted by Sportswire.

His remarks have attracted attention because they appear to question whether all teams are receiving consistent treatment from match officials.

Although Sundowns secured all three points, Cardoso’s comments showed that he was not completely satisfied with what happened during the game.

The coach’s reference to last season is particularly interesting, as it suggests that he believes certain refereeing decisions could influence how the current league campaign develops.

Sundowns are among the teams expected to challenge for the Betway Premiership title, and every point could become important as the season progresses.

For Cardoso, the main concern appears to be the consistency of decisions made by referees and whether teams are being treated fairly during important matches.

However, his comments are likely to generate different reactions among football supporters, especially fans of rival clubs who may have their own opinions about the standard of officiating in the PSL.

While Sundowns will be pleased with their 4-1 victory over Durban City, the discussion surrounding Cardoso’s post-match remarks is likely to continue.

The Portuguese coach has made his position clear, and his comments have once again brought the issue of refereeing standards in South African football into the spotlight.
