Tyger Valley Unveils Cape Town’s Ultimate Four-in-One Entertainment Destination

Moviegoers in Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs are stepping into a transformed era of out-of-home leisure. Following an ambitious redevelopment as part of Tyger Valley’s broader ‘Gift to You’ campaign, the revamped Ster-Kinekor complex at Tyger Valley Shopping Centre officially opened its doors on Friday, 9 October 2026, debuting a multi-purpose entertainment hub designed to elevate the traditional cinema run into a complete lifestyle experience.

The overhaul signals a crucial evolution within the retail and entertainment sectors. As operators increasingly look beyond standard movie screenings, venues are adapting to offer compelling, multi-faceted experiences that give visitors reason to arrive earlier, stay longer, and return often.

Four Experiences Under One Roof

At the center of the transformation is a suite of upgraded offerings tailored to suit a wide range of visitors—from blockbuster fans and families to gamers and corporate groups:

• Apex:

Making its debut at Tyger Valley, Apex is Ster-Kinekor’s new flagship premium large-format screen concept. It pairs a massive wraparound display extending close to the walls and ceiling with crystal-clear 4K laser projection and a 16.1-channel sound system supported by multiple subwoofers around the auditorium and behind the screen.

• SKX-Perience Free-Roam VR Arena: The complex features a state-of-the-art six-player virtual reality arena—the first free-roam VR arena of its kind to be housed within a cinema complex in Africa. Operating under strict international safety standards with certified operators, the arena uses spatial tracking, VR headsets, and haptic controllers so players aged 12 and up can physically move through digital environments. Game titles range from tactical shooters like

  The Finals

  to

  Ocean Depths

  and

  Dinosaur Park

  .

• Cine Prestige:

Two auditoriums have been converted into a luxury, business-class experience featuring single and double red leather recliners, an adjoining private lounge, and direct in-seat food and beverage service.

• Kids’ Cinema:

A third converted auditorium provides a colourful space tailored specifically for young families, complete with brightly coloured beanbag seating for youngsters, larger seats at the back for parents, activity areas, and a dedicated foyer and catering counter. The venue also caters to children’s birthday party bookings with special group ticket rates, launching with animated features like

Shaun The Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom

  and

  Forgotten Island

  .

Redefining the Cinema Experience

What sets this revamped venue apart from standard cinema layouts is its ability to serve multiple occasions under a single roof. Rather than offering a uniform theatre format, the site caters to every style of outing—whether it is a child’s birthday celebration, a weekend family outing, a team-building session in the VR arena, or a premium date night in Cine Prestige.

The experience extends into the cinema foyer with the addition of a standalone Costa Coffee kiosk—joining existing cinema locations at the V&A Waterfront and Blue Route. Accessible to moviegoers as well as general mall shoppers, the coffee hub seamlessly connects the cinema space with Tyger Valley’s broader retail landscape.

To complement the launch, moviegoers can access a range of loyalty deals and partner savings. These include SK Club perks like ‘The Epic Deal’ (R169.90 for a movie ticket, drink, and popcorn, Monday to Friday) and half-price Tuesdays. Additional savings are available via Discovery Vitality (including free movies for under-18s for screenings before 19:00), Pick n Pay Smart Shopper point redemptions, and discounted rates for pensioners.

By combining cutting-edge cinema technology, interactive gaming, tailored family spaces, and accessible lifestyle amenities, Ster-Kinekor Tyger Valley presents a bold model for the future of moviegoing—proving that the cinema can be an engaging destination in its own right.
