ZRP issue update on investigations surrounding death of Warriors supporter at National Sports Stadium in match against DRC
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have issued an update on investigations into the death of a Warriors supporter, Kudzai Chigora, during Zimbabwe’s AFCON 2027 qualifier against the Democratic Republic of Congo at the National Sports Stadium on 28 September.
The fetal incident involved a ZRP vehicle and occurred at Gate 2 around 6:30pm, shortly after the start of the match.
In a reply to Fadzai Mahere on X, the ZRP said it had established a three-member board comprising senior officers to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The ZRP has set up a board of three senior officers of the rank of Assistant Commissioner to probe what happened before, during and after the soccer match between Zimbabwe and Democratic Republic of Congo at the National Sports Club on 28/09/26,” the police said.
“The findings will be certainly be made public and will also guide on prosecution or arrests to be effected.”
The incident has since attracted the attention of CAF, which has temporarily banned fans from attending national team games.
