Britam Asset Managers Introduce These Two Investment Funds, Details
AI summary
Britam Asset Managers has introduced two investment funds aimed at giving Kenyan investors access to international markets and a wider range of investment opportunities.
The products are the USD-denominated Enhanced Global Equities Special Fund and the Kenyan shilling-denominated Multi-Asset Special Fund. Both target investors seeking to diversify their portfolios beyond traditional local investments.
The Enhanced Global Equities Special Fund provides exposure to international companies operating in technology, innovation and other major sectors of the global economy.
Its featured holdings include Tesla, Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Apple, Meta, Netflix and Adobe. The fund allows investors to participate in the performance of businesses operating across different industries and international markets.
Britam Group Chief Executive Officer Tom Gitogo said the fund was designed to give African investors an opportunity to invest in companies whose products and technologies they use daily.
The second product, the Multi-Asset Special Fund, combines local and international equities, exchange-traded funds, fixed-income securities, commodities and alternative investments.
According to Britam, the fund requires a minimum initial investment of Ksh500,000, while subsequent contributions start at Ksh250,000.
Investors must observe a six-month lock-in period, and the product is designed for those with an investment horizon of between three and five years.
The fund also incorporates foreign exchange strategies to manage exposure to fluctuations in the Kenyan shilling. Additionally, it uses leverage, allowing the fund to borrow money to increase its market exposure. However, this approach can amplify losses as well as potential gains.
Britam Asset Managers Chief Executive Officer Barack Obatsa said the company would rely on research, investment selection, governance and risk management to oversee the products.
He emphasised that investors should consider their financial goals, risk tolerance and investment timelines before choosing a fund.
The launch expands the investment options available to Kenyans seeking exposure to global financial markets. However, the minimum investment requirements and associated risks mean the products may not be suitable for every investor.
