Eritrea: Commemoration of 50th Anniversary of Revolution School

As part of the programs being conducted inside the country and abroad in connection with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Revolution School, under the theme “Vibrant Commemoration: New Impetus for Nation Building,” the commemoration officially commenced in Tikul, Molqui Sub-Zone, at the Gash Barka Region level on 16 September.

The program, which commenced with the laying of a wreath at the cemetery where the remains of members of Red Flowers, who were massacred by the Derg fascist regime in 1983, were laid to rest, will feature cultural programs reflecting the history of Revolution School, cultural and artistic programs, sports competitions, seminars, photo exhibitions, and documentary films. The program will continue until 20 September.

At the event, which commenced with the lighting of a torch, the laying of a cornerstone for the construction of a Martyrs’ Cemetery, tree planting, and the laying of a wreath, Mr. Idris Saleh, Director General of Culture and Sports in the Gash Barka Region, said that the program will continue in the sub-zones of Barentu, Teseney, and Akordet.

Likewise, a photo exhibition reflecting the living conditions of the students of Revolution School, as well as their sports, cultural, and other activities, was officially opened in Barentu on 17 September.

Ambassador Mahmud Ali Hirui, Governor of the region; Brig. Gen. Tsehaye Mekonnen, Chief of Staff of the Western Command; senior regional officials; members of the former Revolution School; and others attended the two events.
