NEWS IN: Ruto Officially Launches Construction Of Multi-billion Factory In Ukambani, Details
President William Ruto has today broken ground for a KSh70 billion cement and clinker manufacturing plant in Ngaaie, Mwingi North Constituency, Kitui County, marking a major investment in Kenya’s manufacturing sector.
The project, spearheaded by Devki Group, is expected to transform the region’s limestone deposits into industrial resources while creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic activities in the surrounding communities.
According to the project details, the plant is expected to create approximately 4,000 jobs during the construction phase, providing employment opportunities for local residents and workers from other parts of the country.
Once completed, the facility is projected to directly employ more than 3,000 Kenyans, offering long-term jobs in manufacturing, engineering, transportation, administration and other supporting services.
The construction of the plant is expected to be completed in August 2027, potentially positioning Kitui County as an important centre for cement and clinker production.
The investment is also expected to benefit local businesses, including suppliers, transport operators, traders and service providers who could secure opportunities arising from the construction and eventual operation of the facility.
Speaking on the investment, Ruto said the project would support the government’s efforts to strengthen local manufacturing, reduce reliance on imported products and expand Kenya’s export capacity.
The President noted that investments targeting locally available natural resources could help generate wealth, create jobs and open new economic opportunities for communities.
He added that the government would continue working to position Kenya as an attractive destination for investors by improving the business environment and encouraging the development of industries.
The cement plant is expected to contribute to the country’s construction sector by expanding domestic production capacity as demand for building materials continues to create opportunities for manufacturers.
Its establishment in Kitui could also increase commercial activity in Ngaaie and neighbouring areas, although the scale of the benefits will depend on the project’s implementation and the extent to which local communities participate in the emerging opportunities.
The KSh70 billion investment adds to Kenya’s efforts to expand industrial production, strengthen value addition and create employment through large-scale manufacturing projects.
