Ademola Lookman: Hooked at half-time again, so is it form or rotation?
Ademola Lookman was withdrawn at half-time for a third time in four games as Atlético beat Deportivo, so what does it mean for the Super Eagles?

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was taken off at half-time again as Atlético Madrid beat Deportivo La Coruña 1-0 on Saturday, the third time in four games he has been withdrawn at the break, according to Pulse Sports Nigeria.
Julián Álvarez scored the only goal in the 48th minute, after Robin Le Normand replaced Lookman at the interval. Pulse Sports Nigeria reported that Lookman had no shot, created no chance and made an error that gave Deportivo an effort on goal.
He was also withdrawn at half-time against Alavés and Espanyol. Soccernet looked at his role in the Espanyol preview before that game.
What Diego Simeone has said about the substitutions
After the Espanyol game, the Atlético coach pointed to workload when Pulse Sports Nigeria quoted him:
“We were looking to manage the minutes, the effort; we needed legs.”
Days later, Legit.ng reported further comments from Simeone, who said: “We need everyone. That's clear, I'll say it again.” He also said: “We need fresh legs.”
Lookman has completed 90 minutes only once this season, on the opening day against Málaga, according to Transfermarkt figures cited by Legit.ng. By mid-October he had one goal in nine appearances and about 600 minutes with eight starts, Pulse Sports Nigeria reported.
Analysis: rotation or form, and why it matters to Nigeria
Simeone's explanation is about managing legs across league and European games, and that may well be the whole story. But Lookman's numbers give the other reading some weight: one goal in nine appearances, a first half on Saturday with no shot, and now a half-time exit in three of four games. If form is part of the picture, the workload explanation covers only some of it.
For the Super Eagles the stakes are practical. Lookman did not score in Nigeria's qualifiers against Madagascar or Guinea-Bissau, and the Tanzania double-header in November is central to Nigeria's AFCON 2027 hopes. Chelle will want a forward arriving with minutes and confidence, and the next few Atlético games will show which he gets.
