The dispute over the final resting place of late Gengetone artiste Edgar, popularly known as Stoopid Boy, has taken a new turn after his father claimed the musician’s mother initially agreed that he should be buried in Siaya before changing her position.
Speaking during a YouTube interview on September 1, 2026, the artiste’s father, George William Ochieng Awili, appealed to the mother to honour what he says their son had communicated to her before his death in August.
Ochieng maintained that Stoopid Boy had repeatedly expressed his wish to be laid to rest in Siaya, urging his mother to respect the late rapper’s decision.
“Mama Ian, we spoke with her on phone and she said Stoopid used to tell her he wants to be buried in Siaya. So please, Mama Stoopid, fulfill what your son told you,” Ochieng stated.
The disagreement between the two sides of the family follows differing views over where the musician should be buried.
Ochieng has maintained that his son wanted to be laid to rest at his paternal home in Alego, Siaya. However, another section of the family has favoured Nyandarua, where Stoopid Boy’s mother is based.
According to Ochieng, both parents had initially agreed on Siaya as the musician’s final resting place before his mother allegedly changed her mind, leading to the ongoing standoff.
The artiste’s uncle, Eric Odhiambo, also questioned what prompted the change in position, particularly after the mother allegedly acknowledged that Stoopid Boy had expressed his wish to be buried in Siaya.
“Kama alisema Stoopid Boy alimwongelesha akamwambia, time yake ikifika, yeye aende apumzishwe Siaya, the question I would ask her now is, what made her change her mind?” Odhiambo posed.
The burial disagreement has also affected efforts to raise funds for the musician’s funeral, with the family recently suspending public Paybill contributions.
Ochieng said the decision was intended to avoid confusion among members of the public and prevent allegations that the family was more focused on collecting money than ensuring the artiste received a dignified send-off.
Odhiambo supported the move, saying the fundraising drive would only resume once the two sides of the family reached an agreement on the burial arrangements.
For Ochieng, the priority remains fulfilling what he believes was his son’s final wish — having Stoopid Boy laid to rest at the family’s ancestral home in Alego, Siaya.
