Man charged after boerboel allegedly bites schoolboy

A man whose boerboel allegedly bit a teenager as he walked to school has been hauled before court charged with reckless and negligent.

Although the alleged biting occurred on 5 March 2025, Neil Molaodi Mosimane, 45, was only arraigned before Molepolole Magistrates Court this week.

According to Molepolole Assistant Superintendent, Future Modisadife, the incident took place in the morning, when two boys, aged 12 and 13, were making their way to Sebele Primary School.

Their route took them past Mosimane’s home in Mollale ward, where his pet dog allegedly went barking mad.

The canine is said to have escaped from the yard, before biting the older boy, causing him injuries on the thigh and small finger.

“The dog found a way out through the fence and attacked the minor boys. They were rescued by a certain man and the dog returned to the owner’s yard. The boys returned home to report to their parents and the matter was then forwarded to the police,” explained the police boss.

Mosimane, who is accused of failing to secure, restrain or properly control his dog, reportedly accompanied the boys to Borakalalo Clinic after learning what had happened.

He has since moved the animal to Gakgatla village.

With investigations into the matter complete, final case management conference was scheduled for 23 February 2027.

Currently out on bail, if convicted, Mosimane faces a possible sentence of six months in prison.
