Ben Phiri attends AGM of Retired Reverends under CCAP Blantyre Synod…Apologises to Malawians
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr. Ben Malunga Phiri on Friday honored an invitation to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Retired Reverends under the Blantyre Synod of the CCAP.
In his remarks, Dr. Phiri said he was aware of the fuel scarcity the country is facing and he apologized to Malawians for the pain but was quick to assure them that Government is doing all it can to arrest the situation.
“Over years we have failed to balance import and export. We import more than we export hence the persistent forex challenges, ” he said.
The Minister then challenged the church to reflect deeply on issues of unity and integrity.
“We have lost it somewhere. Today we have a church, specifically under Blantyre Synod, practicing tribalism especially during your AGM. We need to bring back sanity so that when it gets hot out there, we run to the church.”
“Malawi needs to be healed. We may change governments as much as we want but if there is no healing, it will be business as usual,” he said.
In his remarks, General Secretary for the Blantyre Synod, Rev. Anderson Juma said the history of Malawi’s development cannot be told without the Blantyre Mission.
He said country cannot talk about the success of the country without mentioning Blantyre Mission.
“We can’t talk about the success of this country without Blantyre Mission. Blantyre Mission has contributed a lot to the success education, health among others,” said Juma.
The meeting was held under the theme “Being fruitful in every season.”
