Human rights activist Agape Khombe has spent nearly three weeks in Maula Prison following his arrest on 19 August.
Khombe was charged on 21 August with offensive communication and cyberstalking over Facebook posts alleging that lawyer Edgar Kachere duped footballer Tabitha Chawinga in a transaction involving the purchase of a house in Lilongwe.
Chief Resident Magistrate Austin Banda denied Khombe bail, citing his previous failure to comply with bail conditions in a separate defilement case.
His lawyer, Khwima Mchizi, says the court is expected to rule on Friday on an application challenging the decision to revoke his bail.
Khombe’s continued detention means his human rights activism remains on hold as he waits for the court’s decision.
