KEP Chief Executive Officer Mr Nestory Mushi said the awards were established to recognise organisations, schools and individuals demonstrating excellence in environmental conservation.
He said the initiative was also intended to encourage accountability, innovation and long-term sustainability actions.
Kilimanjaro Plantation Limited Managing Director Mr Colton Rabenold said environmental conservation was important to investment, agriculture and tourism, noting that healthy biodiversity helped protect the country’s economic resources.
He said the company would continue working with stakeholders to promote environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The awards also recognised environmental conservation efforts in schools, media and individual categories, highlighting the growing role of different stakeholders in protecting the region’s natural resources.
According to the organisers, Zara Tours was recognised for its sustained efforts to preserve the environment and campaigns aimed at removing rubbish and human waste from Mount Kilimanjaro.
African Scenic Safaris emerged second in the category, while Kibo Farm View received the water sources conservation award for its efforts to protect water sources in Kilimanjaro Region.
