Lamine Yamal Explains His Unusual Assist to Gordon Against Galatasaray

According to a report by Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Lamine Yamal has explained the technique behind his impressive assist to Anthony Gordon, describing the unusual execution as something close to a rabona.

The Barcelona star revealed that the move happened naturally in the moment, with his focus on delivering the ball accurately to his teammate. Although he was unsure whether it fully qualified as a rabona, Yamal admitted that the technique worked perfectly.

“I’d almost call it a rabona, maybe a semi-rabona!” Yamal said.

“In the moment, it just came out like that and it worked perfectly to deliver the assist to Gordon.”

A rabona is a football technique in which a player kicks the ball by crossing one leg behind the other. It is often used to create an unexpected angle for a pass or cross, particularly when a player wants to deliver the ball without switching to their stronger foot.

Yamal’s description of the assist as a possible semi-rabona highlights the improvisational side of his game. Rather than presenting the move as something he had deliberately planned, the young winger explained that it came naturally during the action.

The Spanish international has become widely recognised for his technical ability, creativity and confidence when facing opponents. His ability to find teammates in difficult situations has made his attacking contributions an important part of his performances.

Assists require more than simply passing the ball. Timing, awareness, accuracy and an understanding of a teammate’s movement can all determine whether an attacking opportunity results in a goal. Executing a pass with an unusual technique can make the delivery even more challenging.

Yamal’s comments also offer a glimpse into how naturally he approaches difficult situations on the pitch. His explanation suggests that the priority was getting the ball to Gordon in the right position, regardless of the technique used.

While the precise description of the move may remain open to interpretation, Yamal’s assessment was straightforward: the ball reached its intended destination, and the assist worked exactly as needed.

His brief explanation has drawn attention to the skill and spontaneity involved in producing such a delivery, adding another talking point for football fans discussing his technical qualities.
