Payments land in farmer accounts as agency chair urges environmental stewardship on Mazingira Day

Kenya Tea Development Agency National Chairman Enos Njeru yesterday announced the release of September monthly payments and the second payment — commonly known as the bonus — to tea farmers across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, Njeru said the funds had been transferred to farmers’ bank accounts, with access available from Monday during normal banking hours. He explained that most banks would remain closed yesterday in observance of Mazingira Day, accounting for the short delay.
“As we celebrate, let us continue protecting our environment for sustainable tea production and better returns,” Njeru said, using the announcement to reinforce the agency’s conservation message.
He congratulated farmers on receiving their payments and urged them to remain committed to environmental protection, noting that the health of Kenya’s tea-growing regions is directly tied to the long-term productivity of the sector and the returns farmers receive. He also extended Mazingira Day greetings to tea-growing families, encouraging them to embrace environmental stewardship as a shared and ongoing responsibility.
The timely release of payments carries practical significance for farming households, supporting day-to-day expenses, farm maintenance and continued investment in tea production. For many smallholder farmers, the monthly payment and annual bonus represent their primary source of income.
Kenya’s tea sector supports millions of livelihoods through production, processing and marketing, making the stability and regularity of KTDA payments central to rural economic welfare across the country’s tea-growing counties.
