Prof. Ochefu Declines NDC Campaign Council Appointment

Professor Yakubu Ochefu, an academic at Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, has rejected his purported inclusion in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) National Campaign Council, stressing that he is not a member of the party.

Ochefu, who teaches Economic History and Strategic Studies, said his name appeared on a list circulating on social media without his knowledge or consent.

In a statement personally signed, he clarified: “I am not a member of the NDC and have never been. I was not consulted before my name was included, nor did I give consent. I have written to the Chairman of the Council to decline the appointment and to request that my name be withdrawn and a revised list published.”

The professor, who also serves as National Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Universities Alumni (ANUA) and President-General of Ochetoha K’Idoma, explained that his leadership roles require him to remain non-partisan since both organisations have members across political divides.

He thanked those who reached out for clarification and urged the public to disregard the campaign list as it concerns him.

The development comes amid growing scrutiny of the NDC’s campaign council composition, with several names on the list sparking debate among political observers.
