CAS opens Senegal’s AFCON title appeal hearing, with ruling to follow
CAS heard Senegal’s appeal over the AFCON 2025 final in Lausanne on Thursday. The tribunal has given no date for its ruling.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport opened its hearing into Senegal’s challenge to the outcome of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 final on Thursday, 8 October, with a decision to come later.
AFP reported from Lausanne that the closed-door hearing had run for more than five hours. EWN also reported the opening of proceedings on Thursday.
The Senegalese Football Federation is challenging the Confederation of African Football’s decision of 17 March to record Morocco as 3–0 winners after declaring Senegal had forfeited the final. Senegal wants that decision set aside and to be declared the tournament winner, according to CAS’s 25 March announcement registering the appeal.
Thursday’s hearing concerns that existing appeal. The respondents are CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
In its 30 September operational note, CAS said the hearing would take place in person at its Lausanne headquarters without media present. The parties agreed to proceedings in French.
CAS said the panel would begin deliberations after the hearing and that no decision would be issued on the hearing day. It did not give a date for the final ruling.
