Former Inspector-General of Police and Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 Nasarawa State election, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has raised the alarm over alleged vote-buying and the mass collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from women in the state.
Adamu raised the alarm in Doma while responding to his endorsement by the Alago nation as its preferred candidate for the 2027 election.
According to him, some politicians who lack grassroots support have resorted to buying PVCs to prevent voters, particularly women, from voting on election day.
“Those who don’t have people following them are collecting cards from women. They are buying them to stop the women from coming out to vote. Therefore, anyone whose card has been collected should go and retrieve it.
No one should agree to sell their card, and everyone should come out on election day with their card,” he warned.
The former police chief said the development posed a danger to democracy and called on residents to resist any attempt to disenfranchise them.
He linked his ambition to govern Nasarawa in 2027 to the need to protect ordinary citizens, whom he said were suffering under the current situation, with mothers, children and youths being neglected.
“Our decision to contest this election is for the common people. We are in this race for the common man, to ensure that ordinary people do not continue to suffer the way they are suffering now,” Adamu said.
He promised to prioritise quality education, healthcare and security if elected.
Earlier, the leader of the conveners of the Alago Support Group for IGP Adamu, Danjuma Joseph, said their endorsement of Adamu was a conscious decision to participate in shaping Nasarawa’s future. He added that they considered him a man of proven integrity and uncommon patriotism, with deep historical and maternal ties to Alago land.
He described the endorsement in Doma as a “political covenant” and said the group would mobilise supporters across Nasarawa South, North and West to deliver victory for Adamu.
