Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Police Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang who was on the run in connection with the high-profile murders of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
Targeted intelligence led sleuths to Eldoret town in Uasin Gishu County, where they intercepted the fleeing officer along Uganda Road in the Central Business District. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was driving a silver Toyota Fielder, which investigators believe he was trying to sell to fund his life on the run.
The arrest marks a major breakthrough in the dual homicide investigations as detectives work to uncover the full scope of the killings and identify any potential accomplices.
Following the operation, officers escorted the inspector to the Eldoret Police Station for processing ahead of his formal arraignment in court.
DCI detectives arrest Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang in Eldoret over the murders of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
The two murders occurred months apart in different parts of Nairobi. Prominent Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was shot dead on September 9, 2025, along the Magadi Road/Karen Road junction near Galleria Mall in Karen.
Nearly a year later, Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso was killed on July 29, 2026, along Raila Odinga Way near Kenyatta National Hospital in Upper Hill.
Motive and Ongoing Investigation
The DCI has linked both assassinations to a common motive centered on property disputes, a bitter divorce process, and the alleged involvement of rogue police officers hired to execute the hits.
While the arrest brings a key fugitive into custody, homicide detectives stress that the investigation remains active as they continue gathering evidence and pursuing additional leads.
Reaffirming its resolve to see the cases through, the investigative agency reiterated its commitment to delivering justice for both victims and their grieving families.
“No rank, status, or affiliation places anyone above the law,” the agency said, adding that detectives would continue following every credible lead to ensure those involved were brought before the courts to face charges.
Law enforcement authorities emphasized that the inspector’s arrest does not establish guilt, noting that all allegations against the suspect will be thoroughly tested in court through the legal process.
