2027: Wike To Lead Tinubu’s Campaign In FCT, Rivers

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed plans to personally lead the campaign for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the FCT and his home state, Rivers.

Wike made this known on Friday in Chikuku, Kuje area council of Abuja, after inspecting the ongoing Phase II construction of the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road dualisation project.

The minister said he would soon inaugurate campaign teams for Tinubu in both states, insisting that political structures supporting the president were already mobilising ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC) was also putting its machinery together for what he described as an aggressive campaign.

“The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), I believe, is putting itself together for an aggressive campaign.

“For us who are supporting Mr President from different political platforms, we have put our machinery ready to fully kickstart.

“Very soon, I will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State, which I will lead. All elements of the APC are ready, Mr President is ready, we are ready and you can see the enthusiasm,” he said.

Wike also linked the administration’s infrastructure projects in the FCT to the political support he expects Tinubu to receive from residents.

He argued that the visible projects being executed across the territory would speak for the administration at the polls, dismissing any suggestion that electoral malpractice would be responsible for the president’s performance in the FCT.

“People are happy, and I don’t know who will contest against Mr President as far as this election is concerned.

“This is governance, and this is what people expect. It will translate directly into actual votes,” the minister said.

Wike further said the infrastructure projects would boost support for Tinubu and other candidates backed by his political structure, including former FCT senator Philip Aduda and candidates contesting the two House of Representatives seats.

“It is very obvious. Nobody will be able to claim rigging in the FCT. The ‘rigging’ is the projects we are delivering, making the people happy,” he said.

Speaking on the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road project, Wike commended the contractor and site engineers for the progress recorded, assuring that funding would be made available to facilitate completion by December.

“This is my first time getting to this side of the road, and I can see how highly populated this area is,” he said.

The minister maintained that the delivery of functional infrastructure remained central to effective governance, saying residents’ reactions to completed and ongoing projects demonstrated the importance of infrastructure to public welfare.

“You can imagine the enthusiasm and happiness on the faces of the people. That is why we say the essence of governance is to make people happy.

“When the people are happy, those in authority are happy,” Wike said.

He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for what he described as sustained support for capital projects in the Federal Capital Territory.
