Kofi Mole opens up on how fatherhood affected his music career

Ghanaian rapper Kofi Mole has opened up about the period he stepped back from music, revealing that fatherhood changed the pace of his career as he made being present in his son’s life a priority.

The ‘Don’t Be Late’ hitmaker said becoming a father meant he could no longer dedicate all his time and energy to music, leading to a noticeable drop in his work rate and the frequency with which he released new songs.

Speaking on the On the Line podcast, Kofi Mole revealed that his son is now seven years old and said the early years of fatherhood required him to take a step back from the demands of his music career.

He explained that beyond parenting, he also used the period away from music to travel and experience life outside the creative environment, giving himself room to explore new things and reconnect with himself.

Kofi Mole said the decision was not necessarily a loss of interest in music but rather a period in which other aspects of his life needed his attention.

The rapper also pushed back against the idea that artistes should constantly create music to satisfy public expectations, arguing that allowing outside pressure to dictate his creative process could ultimately affect his artistry.

According to him, he prefers to record music that genuinely appeals to him rather than forcing himself to produce songs simply because fans or the industry expect them.

At the same time, Kofi Mole acknowledged that consistency remains important in an industry where artistes can quickly lose visibility when they take prolonged breaks.

He noted that the music space does not remain vacant for long, with other artistes always ready to occupy the attention and opportunities left behind.

Now that his son is older, Kofi Mole says he has returned his attention to music and is once again creating.

While he expects some people to question whether his absence has affected his relevance, the rapper remains confident in the body of work that established him, insisting that the creative ability behind his earlier hit songs has not disappeared.

For Kofi Mole, the break has therefore been less about walking away from music and more about making room for fatherhood, personal growth and experiences outside the studio before returning to the craft on his own terms.
