The broad-based coalition has formed a joint committee to develop a manifesto ahead of the 2027 General Election, with President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) set to guide its proposals.
In a statement on Tuesday, October 27, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) said the committee was established by the parties’ Joint Parliamentary Group. It will review areas where existing policies have fallen short and identify ways to advance national development.
“The Broad-Based Committee on Manifesto Development, constituted by the Joint Parliamentary Group of the UDA and ODM parties, has made significant progress in drafting the joint coalition’s commitments,” UDA said.
The party said the coalition would build on BETA, citing its record in government and its intention to continue the agenda.
“Building on the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the coalition heads into the 2027 General Election with a credible track record and a firm resolve to consolidate the gains made so far,” the statement added.
The proposed manifesto will also be guided by Ruto’s* “Usawa ni Sawa”* philosophy, which UDA describes as an agenda for equity across the country.
“The new coalition manifesto will be anchored on the Usawa Ni Sawa philosophy, accelerating national transformation by building on existing achievements, addressing outstanding challenges, and delivering greater prosperity for every Kenyan,” the party said.
The coalition still faces negotiations over its 2027 presidential ticket. ODM has said it should be given the deputy president position if it is to be treated as an equal partner.
There are also competing indications within the Kenya Kwanza camp over who could deputize Ruto. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said he intends to remain Ruto’s running mate, while Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has publicly expressed interest in the position.
