Sundowns get last-minute transfer deal over the line

Mamelodi Sundowns successfully got a last-minute transfer deal over the line before Monday midnight.

The PSL transfer window is now officially closed, and the majority of the teams completed their transfers very early in the season.

But Sundowns still wanted to pursue one more deal, and it was that of AmaZulu left-footed centre-back Wandile Dube.

While Dube was initially wanted by rivals Orlando Pirates, Sundowns were persistent enough to convince AmaZulu to sell to them.

Dube was spotted in Johannesburg on his arrival on Monday afternoon as he headed to Chloorkop for his medical tests.

And he passed the tests before putting pen to paper on a three-year deal with the African champions.

STIFF COMPETITION LIES AHEAD

At 22, Dube faces stiff competition for a place in Miguel Cardoso’s starting line-up, especially given the fact that he will compete with international stars.

As things, Khulumani Ndamane is the only regular left-footed centre-back at Sundowns, and Dube will have to work hard to claim that spot.

At times, Cardoso plays two right-footed centre-backs, hence the need for a younger left-footed centre-back to learn the ropes.
