Agricultural expert Leonard Chimwaza, whose company Nohaviwa Investment is among exhibitors at the 22nd National Agriculture Fair in Blantyre, has urged farmers to embrace organic fertiliser amid the rising cost of inorganic fertiliser.
Chimwaza, who is the founder of Nohaviwa Investment, said organic fertiliser can help improve soil productivity and retain moisture.
He said this in an interview on Friday at the Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre, where the National Agriculture Fair is currently underway.
Chimwaza said Nohaviwa Investment produces and distributes Nova Grow blended organic fertiliser, which is aimed at improving soil productivity and promoting sustainable farming.
“Our aim is to support the government’s effort to improve soil health and agricultural productivity as a way of addressing the high cost of inorganic fertilisers that hinder small-scale farmers,” said Chimwaza.
He said although the production costs are high, Nohaviwa Investment remains committed to supporting government efforts to improve food production and the economy.
“Despite the production costs being very high, we are very keen to contribute to the government’s efforts to ensure that our economy is enhanced, but also that the food drive is taken to greater heights,” he said.
According to Chimwaza, Nova Grow blended organic fertiliser is distributed across the country through farmer groups, cooperatives and village banks, among others.
Nohaviwa Investment is among 139 farmers, businesses, agricultural cooperatives and other stakeholders taking part in the 22nd National Agriculture Fair.
The fair is being held at the Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre under the theme “Transforming Agriculture through Innovation, Value Addition and Market Linkages.”
