Police recover 241 kilos of bhang after Nakuru highway crash

• According to police, the vehicle, a Mazda CX-5, was travelling from Nakuru towards Nairobi when the driver attempted to overtake between Shinners Boys and the Mbaruk area, lost control and collided with an oncoming Scania trailer.

Police in Nakuru have recovered 241.5 kilogrammes of bhang valued at an estimated Sh7,245,000 after the SUV transporting the consignment was involved in a road accident along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

According to police, the vehicle, a Mazda CX-5, was travelling from Nakuru towards Nairobi when the driver attempted to overtake between Shinners Boys and the Mbaruk area, lost control and collided with an oncoming Scania trailer.

The impact caused the Mazda to spin off the road, sustaining extensive damage to its front section. The driver fled the scene on foot, abandoning the wrecked vehicle.

On inspecting the SUV, officers discovered six sacks of bhang concealed inside. The consignment has since been secured, with detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) in Nakuru taking over investigations.

A manhunt has been launched for the driver, who remains at large.
