An unidentified person died in a road accident at Otuvingo village near Okakarara in the early hours of Saturday, with the victim’s remains burnt beyond recognition.
According to Otjozondjupa police spokesperson Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, the accident occurred between 01h00 and 02h00 when a Nissan NP200, whose registration number and colour are yet to be established, allegedly lost control, left the road and collided with a tree.
The deceased is believed to have been travelling from Okaepe village towards Okakarara and is suspected to have been travelling alone.
The vehicle and its occupant were engulfed in flames, with the remains of the unknown person later retrieved from the wreckage.
The remains were taken to the Otjiwarongo police mortuary and are expected to be transferred to Windhoek for forensic examination.
Police have not yet determined the deceased’s gender or age, while the next of kin have also not been identified.
An engine number was recovered from the scene and is expected to assist investigators in establishing the identity of the vehicle and deceased.
Police investigations are continuing.
