Speculations High As Top Politician Makes Bold Claim About ODM’s Role in 2027 Presidential Race

Wajir Governor Abdulahi Jiir has stirred political debate after claiming that no presidential candidate can win the 2027 General Election without the support of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Jiir made the remarks in a video shared on social media, where he expressed confidence in the party’s influence on Kenya’s presidential politics.

He stated, “Hakuna mtu atashinda URAIS bila support ya chama cha ODM,” which translates to “Nobody will win the presidency without the support of ODM.”

His statement has attracted attention at a time when political leaders are assessing possible alliances ahead of the next general election.

With the presidential race expected to attract candidates from different political formations, the role of established parties in determining the outcome remains a subject of discussion.

ODM has built a strong political presence over the years through its grassroots networks, loyal supporters and participation in national elections. Its influence in several parts of the country has also made it an important player in coalition negotiations.

Jiir’s remarks suggest that candidates seeking the presidency should consider the party’s support when planning their campaigns.

An alliance with ODM could offer political mobilisation, experienced campaign structures and access to voters in areas where the party enjoys considerable backing.

The governor’s comments also raise questions about ODM’s political direction as leaders begin preparing for the 2027 contest.

The party’s decision on whether to support a particular presidential candidate or negotiate a broader coalition could influence discussions among politicians seeking to challenge President William Ruto.

However, Jiir’s position remains a political opinion rather than an established fact.

Kenya’s presidential elections depend on several factors, including voter turnout, candidates’ popularity, campaign strategies, regional support and the ability to attract voters beyond traditional political strongholds.

A candidate without ODM’s backing could still compete successfully if they build a broad national coalition and convince enough Kenyans to support their agenda.

The remarks have therefore renewed debate over the party’s bargaining power and its importance in future political negotiations.

As the 2027 election approaches, attention will increasingly focus on the alliances political leaders form and the candidates they eventually endorse.

Whether ODM will play a decisive role in determining the next president remains to be seen, but Jiir’s statement has placed the party’s influence firmly in the ongoing political conversation.
