EFCC recovers N1.233tn, secures 10,872 convictions in 34 months

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it recovered N1.233 trillion and secured 10,872 convictions between October 1, 2023, and July 31, 2026.

The anti-graft agency disclosed the figures in a video published on its official X account on Thursday, pointing out its activities during the 34-month period under the leadership of its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

According to the commission, it received 49,673 petitions from members of the public and other sources during the period, describing the petitions as the starting point for its investigative process.

Of the petitions received, the EFCC said 39,615 cases were investigated, while 14,476 cases were subsequently filed before the courts.

The commission said the investigations culminated in the convictions secured during the period.

“₦1.233 trillion in recoveries in just 34 months. This is the legacy of EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede,” the commission stated.

It said the figures reflected its ongoing efforts to combat a broad range of economic and financial crimes, including advance-fee fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, bank fraud and economic governance-related offences.

The agency noted that the statistics represented more than numerical achievements, stressing that each case involved investigative work, tracing of financial transactions and efforts to recover allegedly diverted public and private funds.

“But what do these numbers represent?” the EFCC asked in the video, before pointing out the various categories of financial crimes targeted by the commission.

The agency added that “behind every number is a case investigated, a financial trail uncovered, and public resources recovered” as part of its efforts to combat economic and financial crimes.

The commission concluded its update by reaffirming its commitment to continuing its enforcement activities, stating simply: “The work continues.”
