Sean Ono Lennon has welcomed his first child, becoming a father nearly 46 years after the death of his famous father, John Lennon.
The 50-year-old musician and his longtime partner, model and musician Charlotte Kemp Muhl, announced the arrival of their baby boy on social media on Tuesday, September 1.
The couple revealed that their son is named Aurelius, with Sean sharing the news alongside photographs of the newborn.
Charlotte also posted pictures of the baby and reflected humorously on the realities of life with a newborn, including the lack of sleep that has come with parenthood.
Sean and Charlotte have been together for many years after first meeting at Coachella in 2005. They began dating in 2007 and have collaborated musically over the years.
The birth also makes Aurelius the first grandchild of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Sean was born on October 9, 1975 — his father’s 35th birthday. John Lennon was killed in New York on December 8, 1980, when Sean was five.
Sean’s half-brother, Julian Lennon, also reacted warmly to the announcement, with Sean referring to him affectionately as “Uncle Jules”.
The arrival of Aurelius marks a new generation in the Lennon family, decades after Sean’s own childhood was shaped by the loss of his father.
