Flooding caused by rising waters in Oued Rbib Lahouach cut road links between Smara and both Laayoune and Tan-Tan on Tuesday evening, temporarily halting traffic on affected sections.
A source familiar with the situation told Hespress that water levels had made crossing the roads dangerous, warning motorists not to attempt to pass flooded sections until the water recedes. The closures were expected to last several hours.
The disruption comes as southern Morocco faces thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. The General Directorate of Meteorology maintained weather warnings for Tuesday and Wednesday as unstable conditions affected several regions.
According to the latest warning cited by Hespress, Laayoune, Smara and Tarfaya were expected to receive between 30 and 40 millimeters of rain through 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities urged drivers to exercise particular caution around roads crossing riverbeds and low-lying areas until conditions improve.
