Justina Wamae Enters 2027 Race With Plan to Refund Housing Levy Contributors
Former 2022 presidential running mate Justina Wamae has officially thrown her hat into the ring for the country’s top job, declaring her candidacy for the 2027 General Election.
Wamae announced her presidential bid while launching her new political vehicle, the Imarisha Uchumi Party (IUP). Reflecting on her political journey, she noted that previous affiliations constrained her ability to influence key decisions.
“I, Justina Wamae, officially declare my bid for the presidency under the IUP. I was a member of TNA in 2017 and a running mate in 2022, but in both instances I realized I was just a member, without any say,” Justina declared.
Operating under the campaign banner ‘Inatuhusu’, the Imarisha Uchumi Party plans to field candidates across all elective positions, subjecting all contenders to party nominations ahead of the polls.
While registering IUP proved smoother than the obstacles faced by movements such as Linda Mwananchi, Wamae called on government authorities to streamline party registration processes to encourage multi-party democracy.
Addressing potential coalitions, Wamae indicated a willingness to form alliances with like-minded political movements, provided their policy manifestos align with her vision.
A central pillar of her presidential platform involves dismantling President William Ruto’s controversial Affordable Housing Levy. She outlined a clear plan to restructure the program for current contributors.
“We will sell those affordable houses on mortgage to Kenyans who wish to continue paying, and refund monies to those who have already contributed and want to stop,” Wamae said.
