Murangi is NNL’s crème de la crème

Namibian Correctional Service player Sunshine Murangi has been named Best Overall Player of the concluded MTC Netball Namibia Premier League season, an accolade she says has made her proud, grateful and motivated to continue improving.

The talented netballer attributed her success to consistency, discipline and hard work, while acknowledging the support of her coach, teammates, family and supporters who helped her reach this milestone.

“Being named the Best Overall Player means a great deal to me. It is an honour to have my hard work and performances recognised. I feel proud, grateful and motivated to keep improving,” Murangi said.

She expressed gratitude to her coach and teammates for trusting her in the goal circle and for giving her the confidence to perform at her best.

Murangi believes that consistency, discipline and hard work made the greatest difference to her performance this season.

She also credited her mother, Marvellous, who was her first coach, for instilling valuable lessons that continue to guide her career.

“My mother, Marvellous, who was also my first coach, always taught me that even an average player can become a good coach. Her message was to remain open to constructive criticism and advice from others while trusting myself to make the final decisions on the court,” she said.

National team recall a highlight

One of Murangi’s most memorable moments this season was being recalled to the national team.

“Representing my country is something I have worked towards throughout my netball career,” she said. Although this is not her first individual accolade, having been named Defender of the Season in 2023, Murangi said being recognised as the Best Overall Player was especially meaningful.

“It reflects the effort I have put in and reminds me that hard work truly pays off,” she added.

Teamwork

Murangi said her teammates, coaches, mother, family and everyone who encouraged her throughout the season played an important role in her achievement.

“I could not have done it without my teammates, coaches, my mother, my family, and everyone who encouraged me throughout the season. Netball is a team sport, and their trust and support gave me the confidence to perform at my best,” she said.

Looking ahead

Following a successful season, Murangi aims to continue developing as a player and improve every aspect of her game.

“My goal is to continue developing as a player, improve every aspect of my game and perform even better next season. I want to compete at the highest possible level, represent my country with pride and inspire other young players to believe in themselves and work hard towards their dreams,” she concluded.
