You’re critical assets to Rivers growth, Fubara tells Corps members

From Tony John, Port Harcourt

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has described members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), as critical assets to the growth and development of the state.

Fubara stated this on at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, in Tai Local Government Area, during the swearing-in ceremony of 2026 Batch C, Stream I Corps members deployed to Rivers State.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Promise Oguzie, the governor charged the top management of the scheme to continue to evolve through pragmatic reforms that would remain relevant to the dynamics of today’s graduate youths.

He urged managers of the scheme to expand the scope and operations of its flagship programmes that have continued to make it more impactful, relevant and acceptable to Nigerians.

The governor advised corps members to repay the trust reposed in them by Nigerians through integrity, honesty, patriotism and fear of God, particularly when they serve as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (NEC), during the 2027 general election.

In his welcome address, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Rivers State, Mr. Moses Oleghe, expressed conviction that the corps members are physically, mentally, psychologically and emotionally ready to serve the fatherland and make positive impact across the state.

Oleghe thanked Governor Fubara for his approval for the construction of 1,000-capacity hostels each for male and female corps members, as well as the building of a new NYSC state secretariat and State Coordinator’s lodge.

He expressed optimism that contractors for the projects would soon be mobilized to site.

The administration of oath of allegiance on 3,414 corps members was performed by Justice Frank Onyiri on behalf of the Chief Judge of Rivers State.
