Bad News for Ruto as Unexpected Report Emerges From Mt. Kenya Ahead of 2027 — Details
President William Ruto has suffered another political setback in the Mount Kenya region after Runyenjes MP Eric Muchangi Karemba announced that he will not defend his parliamentary seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the 2027 General Election.
Karemba made the announcement on Sunday, October 25, 2026, while addressing residents in Gikuuri, Runyenjes Constituency, Embu County.
The lawmaker said he would consult his constituents and leaders from different political parties before deciding which party to join.
“It is good that I inform you that the time has come for me to look for a party. I know there are many parties. What I know is that next year, I will not contest on the UDA ticket,” Karemba said.
He added that he expected to announce the political party he would use to seek re-election within two months.
The announcement comes as several politicians from the Mount Kenya region reconsider their political positions ahead of the 2027 polls.
Among the leaders who have left UDA or announced plans to use alternative political platforms are Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe and Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja. Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata and Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha have also joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
The latest developments raise questions about UDA’s political support in a region that played a major role in Ruto’s victory in the 2022 presidential election.
Karemba was first elected to Parliament in 2017 on a Jubilee Party ticket before winning the Runyenjes seat on a UDA ticket in 2022.
His decision to seek another political party comes as leaders prepare for party nominations and campaigns ahead of the next General Election.
However, Karemba has not yet named the party he intends to join, leaving his supporters waiting for his next announcement.
His move adds to the growing political realignments in Mount Kenya, where leaders are weighing their options before 2027.
Will Karemba join Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP or choose another party to defend his seat?
